Gary Philips, headteacher of Lilian Baylis Technology School in south London, turns his attentions to next September's intake with a taster day for Year 6 pupils.
The pupils face a series of sample lessons, and literacy and numeracy tests to gauge their current achievement levels.
Year 10 students think about their future and visit St John's College at Cambridge University. They go on a guided tour, and get the chance to sample life at one of the university's richest colleges.
Meanwhile, Philips continues to contemplate the school's future as it faces being "forcibly academised" as the percentage of students achieving the five A*-C grade GCSEs in previous years has hovered below the 30 per cent National Challenge requirement.
