Summary

The pupils speak over 20 different languages at St. Peter's Church of England Primary School in Leeds. Here staff demonstrate how they successfully aid pupils learning.

The school believes hands-on practical learning experiences are a necessity in aiding language skills and have created an outdoor growing area for pupils' use.

Working thematically, the teachers tie in the work they do outside and in the kitchen with project work in the classroom and discover that practical subjects and experiential learning helps both the children's understanding and their vocabulary.

Keen to make the school the centre of the community, the school also organises family trips, cookery classes for parents, and includes elderly members of the community in the knitting club.
