Summary

Southdale Junior School in Wakefield has worked hard to create an outdoor learning area to help stimulate learning across the school.

The school has converted one of its old school rooms into a potting shed, and the pupils are now helping to dig a new school pond.

The emphasis is on learning through cross-curricular activities, and creative learning experiences include pupils undertaking crime scene investigations to scientifically identify who's been eating their strawberries, and venturing into the world of frogs with a scheme of working that includes music, art, literacy, film making, geography and science.

Later, we discover that the school has opened up a summer cafe offering cakes made by the children with fruit from the garden, which parents and carers are welcome to enjoy.
