Behaviour expert Sue Cowley supports two NQTs embarking upon their first term of work at Oldknow, one of the largest junior schools in the country.

Simrit Riat and Vicky Rutherford met as trainee teachers and now begin their teaching careers as colleagues and friends teaching Year 3 at the primary school.

Headteacher Bhupinder Kondal talks about the challenges that lie ahead for Simrit and Vicky, and reveals her hopes and expectations for their first term as new teachers.

Teaching consultant Sue Cowley takes a close look at Simrit at work in her Year 3 classroom, and discusses with both NQTs some strategies for classroom organisation and behaviour management.

Oldknow is a challenging inner-city school recently taken out of special measures. Most of the pupils are from a Pakistani or Bangladeshi background and almost all have EAL.
