Teacher Kerry Smith uses drama with her pupils at Hotwells Primary School in Bristol, as they undertake a study of bugs.
Kerry encourages her young scientists to use their observations to write poetry, as she uses drama as a tool to deliver elements of the renewed Primary Framework.
Her pupils have been researching insects in the school garden and on the web, as Kerry introduces simple exercises regularly used by actors to re-enact what her pupils have discovered.
Kerry knows the school has a high proportion of boys and wants to promote techniques that encourage boys' literacy skills, and drama is one of them, as it gives boys the chance to talk before they put pencil to paper.
